HOW IT GOT STARTED
The Story
During my final year of high school I was fortunate enough to be able to visit Thailand and Laos as part of a school trip. This sparked a love of travel in me and after finishing school I began to travel in the end of year university breaks.
Now that I've started a full time job the opportunities for travel are smaller but I still get out as often as possible.
This blog offers me the chance to discuss my passion for travel and in particular trekking and mountaineering. I'll keep the topics varied, from travel tips, location guides, gear reviews and anything else that feels appropriate.

ABOUT ME
This blog is run by me, David.
My love of the outdoors and travel was definitely helped along by my parents.
Dad, a Scottish born émigré to South Africa met my mum, a British East African girl in Nairobi and long story short she moved down to South Africa.
Over the next decade they travelled all over the world, including driving the "hippy trial" overland from Singapore to London
Eventually my parents moved to Melbourne, Australia, where I was born.
In my younger years I was lucky to find my passion in the pool and learned a lot from my years of training. I was privileged to represent my country in the junior national team several times.
In my final year of school a trip to Thailand and Laos sparked a love of travel which I had to put aside from a few years while swimming took precedence.
After leaving school I started my university journey which would eventually lead to a bachelor and masters degree in Operations Research, a field of mathematics.
During this time I had to make the hard decision to hang up the goggles and commit to university fully. Whilst this was a devastatingly hard choice, the upside was that I now had the opportunity to start travelling in the generous end of year breaks.
